“ENTE STRITHWAM” – ONE DAY PROGRAMME AT MAHILA MANDIR, KARIKODE

As part of the fieldwork, the social work trainees Ms. Anjaly Mohan, Ms. Gopika Mohan and Ms. Parvathy organised  a one day programme called “Ente Strithwam” at Mahila mandir, karikode on  19/09/2013. The programme conducted had three different sessions – an awareness class on personal hygiene for women, a free medical camp and Onam celebration.

The programme held at Mahila mandir started with a prayer song sung by the inmates were Ms. Lathika (superintendent, Mahila mandir)has chaired the programme and Ms. Anjaly Mohan welcomed everyone to the session. The programme was inaugrated by  Dr.Dhanya G Krishnan(MO, Gynecology, dist.hospital, kollam). she extended her heartfelt gratitude towards the assigned social work trainees of Amrita vishwa vidyapeetham in Mahila mandir for inviting her there and also considered it as her great opportunity to work for the inmates in her career. The whole function got concluded by delivering a vote of thanks by Ms. Gopika Mohan.

The first session of the awareness class on personal hygiene for women started by the time of 10:30 am,   were Dr. Dhanya enlightened the inmates about the importance of  being hygiene in their menstural period and day today life. Her her class also covered some sensitive areas like sexual diseases and hygiene, mental and physical health etc… Being a gynecologist Dr. Dhanya could explain everything relating the topic in detail to the inmates. This helped the inmates to get an answer to their doubts .

The second session started by 12 pm, was a free medical camp session were all inmates of mahila mandir stood forward to consult the doctor with their problems. Doctor carefully examined, prescribed medicines and also referred some  for a detailed check-up in the hospital.

Later after completing the session the institution and the social work trainees together celebrated “ONAM” with some invited dignitaries like shri. Noushad (chairman,Mahila mandir), shri. Sunil Pattathanam (social worker & reporter Keralakoumudi), Dr. Dhanya G Krishnan (MO, Gynecology dist. hospital, kollam) and so on . Third session got more interesting through the cultural events conducted by the inmates and the social work trainees. The cultural programmes that took place over there has pictured out some excellent artists in the field of dance , music, mimics, poetry etc..and by 3:30 pm all the programmes got winded up and Ms Parvathy extended her sincere thanks towards the institution and inmates on behalf of the social work trainees and Dept.of social work , Amritapuri for helping and co-operating with them making the programme a grant success.
