Best Paper Award for Parvathy

DSC_0524p2Ms. Parvathy.V, student of 4th Semester MSW as well as the coordinator of won the award for the best paper in the 31st  Annual National Conference of Indian Society of Professional Social Work, organized by Department of Psychiatry, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka on 3rdto 5th of January 2013. The award was for her paper “Incidence of Home Delivery among Tribals in Wayanadu”which has been presented in the Students’ Award Category.  The objective of the study was to validate the existence of home delivery practices among the tribals of Wayanadu and to understand the various factors deciding the choice of place of delivery among the tribals. Around 20% of home delivery cases were observed even among the current generation. The study was done with the extended support of Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital, Wayanadu.

The theme of the conference was “Challenges and Innovations in Professional Social Work” and Parvathy’s paper received extensive appDSC_0441 manpalreciation from the judging panel and the audience. Besides Parvathy, Leksmi Vimala and Ms. Anitha.S also presented their papers. Lekshmi’s paper titled titled “Stress and Coping among Adolescence in Kerala” and Anitha’s, “Self Esteem among Adolescence of a Rural School in Kerala”. Both the papers were well discussed in the conference.

Dr. Renjith R Pillai (Chairperson), and Mr. Rajeev MM, (Faculty Member) of Dept. of Social Work, Amrita University also presented papers in general category.  The papers were titled “Impact of Psycho Social Care on the survivors of disaster by Community Level Workers” and “Disaster Response and Recovery; the critical involvement of the Local Self Government and the effected DSC_0460 Dr renjithcommunity” respectively.
